From Wednesday to Friday next week (24-26 July) Perth will be the epicentre of debate on how the international relationships driving Australia’s $368 billion nuclear powered submarine purchase may play out in regional diplomacy, cooperation and industry development.

As the geographic fulcrum between the United Kingdom, India, Japan and the United States, Perth will host the Indian Ocean Defence & Security (IODS) 2024 conference and exhibition, at which key Australian and international government, defence and industry leaders will explore the theme: Where AUKUS Meets The Quad.

IODS 2024 has already achieved landmark status, with the naval chiefs of all three AUKUS nations to speak at the conference. This marks the first time they will meet in Australia.

Australia’s Chief of Navy Vice Admiral Mark Hammond will join United Kingdom First Sea Lord Admiral Sir Ben Key and US Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Lisa Franchetti, at the event, with a host of speakers from industry, policy makers and government from the US, Australia, Asia and South East Asia.

IODS 2024 is presented by Defence West and the Western Australian Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation with organiser AMDA Foundation Limited, with a conference program developed by Defence West and the Perth USAsia Centre.

The conference program will cover AUKUS, the Quad and related issues, including:

• Global instability and the Indian Ocean
• Implications of AUKUS for industry
• Naval Cooperation in the Indian Ocean
• Perspectives from the Indo Pacific
